THE SHORT FUSE: IN CONVERSATION

Write, She Said : by Jacqueline Gay Walley

Join Elizabeth Howard host of the Short Fuse Podcast, authors Terese Svoboda and Jacqueline Gay Walley as they discuss Write, She Said.

In Write, She Said, the fifth book in the Venus as She Ages collection, Gay imagines the writers Jean Rhys (Wide Sargasso Sea) and Marguerite Duras (The Lover) coming back to life to straighten out our narrator’s life. The three travel to Vienna, where they book themselves into rooms at the Sacher Hotel. In this novel we meet the writer, the protagonist, incorporating the lives of these women writers into her own, as she reflects and places in perspective her own life and work.

Terese Svoboda, a Guggenheim Fellow, is the author of 20 books. She has won the Bobst Prize in fiction, the Iowa Prize for poetry, an NEH grant for translation, the Graywolf Nonfiction Prize, a Jerome Foundation Prize for video, the O'Henry Award for the short story, and a Pushcart Prize for the essay. She is a three time winner of the New York Foundation for the Arts fellowship, and has been awarded Headlands, James Merrill, Hawthornden, Hermitage, Yaddo, MacDowell and Bellagio residencies. Her opera, WET, premiered at Disney Hall in Los Angeles, California.

Her novel, Dog on Fire, is being published in March 2023
