A CONVERSATION WITH SETON HAWKINS AND MARCUS PRINTUP

This episode explores the opening of Mother Africa, Jazz at Lincoln Center’s 2025–26 season, celebrating jazz in Africa and the African diaspora that brought it to life. Elizabeth Howard is in conversation with Seton Hawkins t,he Director of Public Programs and Educational Resources at Jazz at Lincoln Center. He is a jazz advocate, educator and producer, originally from Johannesburg, with a specific focus on South Africa, and Marcus Printup. Marcus was invited to join the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra by Wynton Marsalis and been a member since 1993. Since then he has established and held third chair in the trumpet scetion and contributes regularly to the orchestra as an arranger and composer. He has recorded with many jazz legends. The podcast will highlight three South African jazz standards that will be featured in the Jazz at Lincoln Center program: Kippie Moeketsi – Scullery Department, Winston Mankunku Ngozi – Yakhal’ Inkomo, and Feya Faku – Elegy for Bheki Mseleku.
